How to share a screenshot as a link (Windows and Mac)

When you want someone to look at something on your screen, attaching a file makes them save it and open it. Handing over a link puts it in front of them the moment they click. Here is the shortest way to do that.

On a Mac

1. Press ⌘ + Shift + 4 and drag over the area you want. To capture a single window instead, press Space after that
2. Hold Control while you capture and the image goes to your clipboard instead of your desktop
3. Open Gazobin and press ⌘ + V
4. When the upload finishes, the share link is already in your clipboard

If you saved the file instead, dragging it onto the page does the same thing.

On Windows

1. Press Windows + Shift + S and drag over the area you want
2. The capture goes straight to your clipboard
3. Open Gazobin and press Ctrl + V
4. When the upload finishes, the share link is already in your clipboard

Capturing from the browser

You can skip the keyboard shortcut entirely. Press the Capture screen button (or the C key) and pick which screen to share. Whatever you choose is uploaded directly.

Sending an image from a web page

You can drag an image straight off a web page onto Gazobin without saving it first. No right-click, save, upload round trip.

Choosing how to hand it over

• Link — for chat and email. The normal choice
• Image URL — the address of the file itself, for feeding into another service
• Markdown — renders as an image in GitHub issues and Notion
• HTML — for embedding in an internal wiki

The share panel on each image page switches between all four with one click.

Keeping it away from the wrong people

Share links contain a random 32-character id, so they can't realistically be guessed. On top of that, each image can have:

• A view password — the link won't open without it
• An expiry — 1 hour, 24 hours, 7 days or 30 days, after which it deletes itself

Doing it all from the keyboard

• C — capture the screen and upload it
• ⌘V / Ctrl+V — upload whatever image is in your clipboard
• / — search your previous captures
• ? — show every shortcut
